Growing up, I could walk straight off our driveway and into woods. I loved wandering it, especially by myself, daydreaming and exploring at my own pace. Once a praying mantis stopped me cold in my tracks. I’d never seen anything like it—so extraterrestrial. We stood in silence, studying one another.

The woods are gone and I’ve moved on, but my scouting nature has only grown. And when creatures grab my attention, I wonder: What’s their story? We’re about to find out.
